Daggers

Daggers is a simple, beautiful two-player card game designed & published by Arcana Games.

It has tarot-like imagery which makes it feel like a game one would find people playing by the fire at a tavern in a fantasy world. Its elegant bluffing & push-your-luck mechanics are very easy to learn; one can play a hand in 5-10 minutes.

I backed the Kickstarter and got a printed deck. I found myself designing better rules summary cards to put in the box … and wound up reformatting the cards to make them easier to use in play.

My slight redesign highlights the terrific original art by simplifying the overall design. It includes two variants of the trump cards — one with their special effects printed on them, one without for experienced players — both showing a distinctive letter for the trump in the upper corner (instead of its value) to make big hands easier to handle.

The publishers have their own free PNP version, and you can buy a properly printed deck from them; I also recommend  their story game The Frost Papers.
